WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?
Assists in office stewardship teams by performing inspections face to face with customers to resolve claims and performs other duties outside the office.
Investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and concludes claims including verification of coverage, legal liability and extent of damage to property, which may require contact by telephone, correspondence, or in person.
Assists agents in the resolution of claims.
Prepares and/or reviews property estimates and contents estimates in loss settlements.
Examines claims submitted by insureds and/or third parties, or such claims referred from other claim units, to determine whether additional or specialized investigation is necessary for claim resolution.
May participate in Weather and Catastrophe planning and response
WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION?
Uses various electronic resources for claim handling.
Reviews and confirms information gathered in initial contact and secures additional information as needed.
Learns and applies knowledge of state and federal laws, statutes and insurance regulations in claim handling.
Interprets and applies insurance contract provisions.
Learns and uses claims policies and procedures.
Utilizes appropriate job aids, expertise and tools to accurately and consistently handle claims according to standard claim processes.
Completes on site inspection of property damage, prepares building repair estimates and issues claim settlement payments.
May secure floor covering sample for evaluation.
Documents the claim file according to the file documentation workflow and standard claim processes.
Reconciles submitted estimates with State Farm estimate on property damage losses and issues replacement cost benefits payments.
With the assistance of the policyholder scopes/secures inventory of damaged personal property while on site and enters into contents estimating platform and issues claim settlement payment.
Works in partnership with and provides instruction to contents team.
Reconciles invoices and receipts submitted on personal property losses and issues payment for replacement cost benefits.
Develops and applies basic knowledge of, property damage related issues to handle claims within authority.
Provides claim informationto stewardship claim specialist to assist in claim resolutionConsults with claims management on coverage issues to determine appropriate course of action.
Coordinates with outside sources to obtain information to aid in claim resolution.
Handles nonroutine claims independently.
Serves as a resource for other State Farm associates on claim related issues.
Recommends appropriate resolution of coverage issues to management.
Recognizes and handles subrogation opportunities, updating all appropriate subrogation fields and prepares file for subrogation handling.
Recognizes and handles retained salvage and monitors pending salvage sale items.
May assist in the training of less experianced claim specialists.
Conducts special projects as assigned.
Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Supervisor during his/her absence, as delegated.
Recognizes and reviews claims requiring specialized handling including identifying issues that may require the use of independent experts or vendors.

Uses high degree of technical knowledge in estimating damages and writing estimates
ITEMS OF NOTE
Fulfills state licensing and continuing education requirements, as applicable.
Applies knowledge of state and federal laws, statutes and insurance regulations in claim handling.
Must be willing to work flexible work shifts and/or varying shifts as operation dictates.
May be required to work overtime.
Position may require walking, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, stooping, crawling, and/or lifting objects.
Requires lifting, carrying, unfolding, and climbing a ladder for inspections on both residential and commercial structures.
Must maintain a valid license to lawfully operate vehicles as directed/requested by State Farm.
Job may require travel overnight via commercial transportation and/or driving motor vehicles to any office locations where the company does business, or other locations to conduct/attend training, conferences, meetings and or seminars.
As business needs dictate, some proximity Claim Specialists act in a dual role as an Assignment Claim Specialist and an Ownership Claim Specialist.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
These positions are for West South Dakota territory.
-Fire Claims experience is preferred. Jurisdictional knowledge for the state the role is located in is preferred. Other factors for consideration may include: role/segment experience, job performance, current office location, and proximity to territory. The ideal candidate should reside within the territory.
-Employees may be expected to work irregular hours.
-Continued employment is contingent upon meeting the requirements necessary to obtain appropriate state(s) mandated licenses. This includes successfully completing all applicable licensing exam(s), background checks and MVR's required of various state(s). Failure to do so may result in termination.
-An employee who accepts a job offer is expected to fulfill that obligation. By choosing to rescind their acceptance of any offer, the employee acknowledges there is no guarantee of continued employment at State Farm in another role. Employees hired into a future state job role will have an incumbency period beginning on the date the Final Offer is accepted and extends to 12 months after the HR effective date, which must be met before the employee can post for other lateral State Farm positions. There will be no incumbency period for promotions in the future state Auto and Fire Claim model roles. This incumbency period does not alter the at-will nature of the employment relationship. We do not intend to allow movement from future state Auto and Fire Claim model role to legacy claim roles (including promotions).
Please Note Definitions for the Purposes of Claims Incumbency Policy: Lateral: is any movement within a job family (e.g. para professional support(e.g. PA2 to PA3), professional technical (e.g. RB1 to RB2), and management (e.g. MG2 to MG3). Promotion: is any movement between job families (e.g. para professional support to professional technical, or professional technical to management). Promotions also include movement between the MG2/MG3 job levels to MG4/MG5 positions.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
