Examples of Work:
This is an At-Will position and is under the discretion of the Director of Insurance. Duties: Extensively work on site at insurance companies verifying financial and non-financial information. Able to travel out-of-state for two week periods of time on a regular basis, as needed. Significant amount of the work is performed in Omaha area. Work both independently as well as in conjunction with a team of fellow examiners in a variety of work environments. Investigate insurance company activities and determine if an insurance company is in conformity with insurance industry
standards "Statements of Statutory Accounting
" (SSAP). Investigate and analyze insurance company policies, procedures, operations and controls to detect possible regulatory statute violations and solvency concerns. Review and verification of insurance company's recordings of accounting transaction activities including but not necessarily limited to review of journal entries, ledgers, trial balances and various supporting source documentation. Assist in the verification and review of insurance company information and data which supports such items such as assets, net worth, liabilities, capital stock, surplus, income and expenditures. Correspond with and conduct interviews with insurance company officials to verify and evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements and to obtain an understanding of insurance company operations. Make clear and accurate assessments regarding whether an insurance company is adequately meeting compliance standards. Timely prepare work papers which are accurate, organized and clearly stated. Identify and evaluate internal controls including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.In-state and out-of-state travel is required.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENT: Bachelors degree in accounting from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 hours of accounting OR a Bachelors degree in another field of study from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 hours of accounting which includes six hours of accounting fundamentals, six hours of intermediate accounting, three hours of general auditing, and at least nine hours of other accounting coursework. In addition, applicant should have at least six hours of business law (three hours of the business law hours may be acquired after hire through LOMA, CPCU, or CLU courses). Advancement does requires completion of at least three hours of
coursework which can be acquired after hire, as well as meeting other requirements such as experience and verification of proven technically abilities. Please attach transcripts when applying.
OTHER: Valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: the theory and practice of accounting and auditing; Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. Ability to: Communicate effectively, to present comments, opinions, and factual information clearly, concisely, and comprehensively; Analyze financial data; Have an interest in making investigation inquires to insurance companies regarding their accounting; Skill in: Organization and attention to detail.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
