Apply to join our team today! Examples of Work Carpentry work and building repair/maintenance of the Nebraska State Capitol building and grounds.
Painting of interior and exterior building surfaces, signs, furniture, and equipment.
Prepares surfaces for painting, mixes, and matches paints and stains, etc.
Repairs, replaces, and installs windows, doors, and door-jams.
Constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs floors, doors, screens, scaffolds, wood fixtures, furniture, cabinets, etc.
Installs hardware hinges, handles, locks, clasps for doors, windows, and furniture, etc.
Repair, construct, and apply wood trim for various assignments, build cabinets and joints, laminate countertops, and other various furniture features.
Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs equipment, systems, and machinery within the carpentry shop (and other shops, if needed) to ensure that necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts is made prior to malfunctions or safety hazards occurring.
Cleans, maintains, and repairs equipment, as needed.
Be available for snow removal.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
PREFERRED:
2- 5 years of experience in the cabinetry field and finish carpentry.
OTHER:
Regular and reliable attendance is required for the position.
Driving is required for the position and the candidate must be able to present a valid driver's license Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills, demonstrate professionalism and possess a constant commitment to excellence.
This position will require the successful candidate to be well organized and self-motivated with the ability to balance multiple tasks and take directives from several sources.
Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain various workshop tools, such as:
saws, planers, jointers, shapers, sanders, molding machines, etc.
Basic computer skills including competency in the use of email, procurement and building system applications, and the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Ability to perform skilled maintenance work, troubleshoot and identify problems, determine materials and equipment necessary for the work assigned, perform manual labor, work in tight spaced, climb ladders, etc.
Ability to lift at least 50lbs and stand for long periods of time.
