Do you want to be an integral part of a highly effective team?History Nebraska is seeking a collaborative collections management advocate to serve as Registrar, working with the Collections Manager to ensure the highest level of professional standards.
As a member of the collections department team, this position is accountable for:
omanaging loans;omaintaining accession records for History Nebraska's collections;oassisting with cataloging and documenting conditions/locations for the various collections;ocoordinating collections movement, packing, and shipping as well as locations while on display;odocumenting work of and voting on Collections Committee.
History Nebraska has adopted an Active Collections approach to collections use and management.
The Registrar will play a vital role in documenting the collections materials at all stages of the collections lifecycle.

oParticipates in general collections activities, such as inventories, pest management, environmental monitoring, movement, housing, and handling/packing.
oCreates and processes documentation for legal transfer and other collections activities (accession and deaccession); prepares reports as requested, including agendas and minutes for Collections Committee meetings.
oDirects work/study students, interns, or volunteers on work assignments.
oKeeps abreast of current registration methods and best practices.
oCommunicates effectively with internal and external audiences.
oContributes to a positive work culture and inclusive environment by working cooperatively with others and conducting oneself as a team player.
oOther duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
helping other departments, participating in interdepartmental committees and working groups; participating in community outreach.
Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in History or closely related field such as:
Education, Museum Studies, Geography, or Anthropology AND two years of experience in a museum setting.
PREFERRED:
oThree or more years of practical collection experience in a museum, repository, or cultural organization, ideally as a registrar or with collections management duties.
oExperience and proficiency with databases and/or collections management systems.
oAdvanced knowledge of standard museum/archives practices, including handling, storage, care and preservation, acquisition, cataloging, deaccessioning.
oExperience managing acquisitions and loans in an environment including a variety of collections types (archives, manuscripts, photos, audiovisual, library or museum objects).
oDemonstrated experience in project management.
oExperience mounting and installing historical objects for exhibition.
OTHER:
oMust be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
oMust be available for emergency response activities.
oMust be willing to occasionally work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.
oPosition requires occasional travel.
oMust possess a valid driver's license, be able to drive a state vehicle as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities oKnowledge of collections registration principles and best practices; basic knowledge of general collections management.
oFlexibility, creativity, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to identify and achieve goals while addressing multiple competing priorities.
oAbility to adapt to and operate collections management software, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Outlook.
oAbility to communicate and work effectively and inclusively with diverse and varied people and groups.

oAbility to effectively direct the work of work/study students, interns, and volunteers.
oDemonstrated ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as a member of a team.
