Schramm Education Center and Schramm Park State Recreation Area, 21502 W Hwy 31, Gretna, NE 68028 Examples of Work Individual will assist the Outdoor Education Specialists with planning, coordination, and delivery of education programs for park visitors and field trip groups.
Education programs are offered to a range of audiences and may include outdoor skills (fishing, sling shots, etc.
), natural history (bird watching, insects, mammals, reptiles, geology, and paleontology), guided hikes, night programs, special events and more.
Individuals will interact with and offer interpretive programs for park visitors in the Education Center and Schramm Park SRA.
In addition to educational and interpretative programs, individuals will assist with housekeeping and maintenance of Education Center facilities and daily animal care.
Individuals will perform customer service activities, such as answering phones, taking payments, and answering questions.
Perform related work as required.
Naturalists may assist with programs and events at nearby parks (including Platte River State Park, Eugene T.
Mahoney State Park, Louisville State Recreation Area, and Two Rivers State Recreation Area) as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction or historical setting, retail or customer service setting, agricultural setting, or related coursework/training or experience.
PREFERRED:
Coursework, training or experience in education, natural sciences and outdoor recreation/skills.
OTHER:
Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of education principles and practices, animal husbandry, the ability to present information to a variety of audiences, and ability to drive a vehicle for work purposes.
Basic knowledge of and strong interest in topics described above.
Excellent communication/teaching skills are needed for this position.
Applicant must have a willingness to learn about the natural history of area parks and environments.
Must have a strong desire to share this knowledge with the public through interpretive and educational programming.
Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public, to understand and follow directions, make routine decisions, communicate effectively and apply proper phone etiquette.
Temporary employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week and are placed in an assignment at least six months or longer are eligible to participate in employee benefit programs including:
