Examples of Work:
Participates in the design of various rural and urban highway construction projects including resurfacing and reconstruction projects assigned to the Resurfacing Unit. Designs various roadway features including horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, cross-sections, earthwork, guardrail and other features. Participates in design of erosion control features and implementation of environmental processes. Performs hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and designs culverts and storm sewers. Drafts roadway, culvert and storm sewer cross-section plans. Drafts miscellaneous design details. Prepares preliminary and final construction project quantities and costs. Performs data collection, background research, note reduction, calculations, analysis and documentation of engineering related decisions. Participates in and documents engineering decisions, writes special provisions and keeps project correspondence files accurate and up-to-date. Prepares for and participates in project related meetings and field inspections. Prepares project related documents and reports. Coordinates highway design projects within the division and department, including public service agencies such as cities, counties and utilities. May aid and assist other engineering personnel.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Coursework, training, or experience in design, drafting, engineering, highway construction, or other construction field using CADD applications and practices.
PREFERRED: Two years of post high school education in a field related to civil or construction engineering, with experience in transportation design which includes coordinating projects, making technical engineering computations and assisting with design of complex projects. Experience and knowledge in the preparation of constructions plans, and construction estimates. Experience and knowledge in the design of highways, streets, culverts and storm sewers. Experience and knowledge in the preparation of highway construction plans, construction estimates, highway construction, highway inspection and highway surveying. Experience in GEOPAK, roadway, earthwork, drainage, word processing and spreadsheet programs. Two years of MicroStation based experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern methods and techniques of highway construction, highway inspection and highway surveying. Skills in organization and public relations. Effective communication skills.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
