To serve as the director of Science Education for the Nebraska Department of Education by providing leadership, content expertise, and professional development to Nebraska schools and Educational Service Units (ESUs) in all areas of Science Education. SALARY RANGE: $45,888.72 to $59,640.48 commensurate with skills and experience.
Examples of Work:
Provides statewide K-12 leadership, content expertise, technical assistance, and professional development to promote quality programs in all areas of Science Education. Directs all work concerning the Nebraska State Science Standards including: o Continues to disseminate the newly revised standards to Nebraska schools and other constituencies o Continues to develop implementation materials for use by school districts, ESUs and Teacher Preparation Institutions (e.g. curriculum alignment strategies, model curriculum, sample instructional materials) o Provides professional development opportunities on materials developed o Provides information to schools on how the new standards align to the Common Core Language Arts Standards as they pertain to Science Educationo Provides expertise on formative and summative assessment of the Science standards o Assists schools with the preparation for the NeSA Science Assessments o Keeps up to date on the latest developments on standards in other states as well as the national level o Facilitates the revision of Science Standards once every 5 years Possesses a working knowledge of the latest literature, best practices, and current research (including integrating technology) in Science Education. Develops, provides, or participates in all types of information sessions and professional development on Science education to various constituencies on a local, regional, and statewide basis. Facilitates on-going communication to schools, ESUs, Teacher Preparation Institutions and other constituencies on Science Education in Nebraska through list serves, webpages and other technology. Serves as a collaborative representative of the Nebraska Department of Education on various internal and external committees, and task forces providing expertise in Science Education and Science assessment. Responsibilities: Serve as a liaison to collaborate and build positive partnerships with Nebraska Institutions of Higher Education, Educational Service Units, Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science, Science Olympiad, and other professional groups both statewide and nationally in Science education. Facilitates or assists with Nebraska competitions for various regional and national Science programs and awards involving Nebraska science teachers or students. Co-coordinates the Nebraska Science Cadre in cooperation with the Educational Service Units to improve Science education teaching and learning. Provides leadership and information to citizen groups, parents, and families interested in Science education. Possess a valid driver''s license, travels independently and works in a variety of settings.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Master''s degree in the field of education or related subject area,two yearsof successful preK-12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school, or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country,ANDeligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 79-807. NOTE: A Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 must be possessed by the time the candidate begins employment at the Nebraska Department of Education and an active certificate maintained while in the Education Specialist position. Substitution: Bachelor''s degree in education or equivalent Master of Arts in Teaching per 92 NAC 21,ANDfour years of teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 79-807.
PREFERRED: Beyond a Master's degree in one or more areas of Science education (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, etc.) curriculum and instruction or educational administration. Leadership experience as a coordinator or director in a school, ESU, or professional organization. Previous experience in writing standards and or aligning standards to local curriculum. Experience in presenting to or facilitating discussion with large or small groups. Experience in providing classroom instruction or staff development via distance learning technology or on-line technology. Experience with writing and receiving grants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE: In-depth understanding of the areas of Science and the Nebraska Science Standards o Working knowledge of content standards in the areas of Science from other states and national organizations pertaining to Science. The Common Core Standards in Language arts as it pertains to Science Education. Best practices and current research in teaching and learning in the areas of Science education. Curriculum alignment strategies. School Improvement models and methodologies Formative and Summative Assessment in Science Education. Using data to improve instruction. Integration of technology into Science Education. Differentiation of instruction for diverse learners ABILITIES: Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to a wide variety of constituents on Science education. Research best practices and be able to convey information on teaching and learning in the areas of Science education. Monitor current research on Science education and evaluate its applicability to program. Conduct trainings for large and small groups in person or via technology. Facilitate discussions with large and small groups of educational personnel or other constituents. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with NDE co-workers, school personnel or other diverse groups. Organize and coordinate regional and statewide programs and effortsEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
