Description of Work
The Nebraska Water Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources ( IANR ) is seeking applications for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate. This 12-month (calendar year), special appointment will involve modification, improvement, and testing of plant and soil models developed at the USDA Agricultural Research Service ( USDA - ARS ) Adaptive Cropping Systems Laboratory ( ACSL ). The work will primarily focus on the modification, improvement, and testing of plant and soil models. The position consists mostly of coding mathematical representations of plant and soil processes, numerical and data analysis, and computer programming. The apportionment is 100% research. This position will be located in Beltsville, MD.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Plant Physiology, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agronomy, or a related engineering science field with a strong emphasis on biophysics, applied mathematics, data analysis, numerical methods, and modeling.
  • Strong emphasis on biophysics, applied mathematics, data analysis, and numerical modeling in prior research.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with agriculture systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Python and R.
  • Demonstrated programming experience with crop and soil models, experience with numerical methods, data analysis software, and applied mathematics.
