This position is responsible for performing work of a manual nature which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill.
An employee in this class may be asked to drive and operate equipment with the percent of time spent on equipment operation being less than 30%.
Work is usually performed under the immediate supervision of an employee of a higher classification, but many types of work assigned may be repetitive in nature and once learned can be carried on without difficulty under only general supervision.
This work involves:
performing a wide variety of garden and park maintenance tasks including the routine care of several irrigation systems, ornamental ponds, and using the best horticultural practices in several formal garden sites and their facilities.
Performing maintenance duties on facilities ensuring safety, serviceability, and efficiency standards are met and/or exceeded.
Leading and organizing seasonal workers and volunteers in a manner that jobs are performed safely, efficiently, and accurately.
Nature of Work/Examples of Work Performed Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & Experience Knowledge of power and hand tools used in the work.
Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods of time in all types of weather.
Obtain and maintain a Nebraska Pesticide Applicator's License in Category 00, 04 Obtain and maintain an Arborist License Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid driver's license when operating a vehicle is necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
