The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Children and Family Services is looking for a Staff Assistant I who demonstrates excellent customer service skills, has a high personal standard of integrity, and is action oriented. The successful candidate will participate in and support a culture where employees are highly motivated, energetic, excited and enthusiastic working for DHHS. Strong time management, problem solving, written communication and planning skills are essential.
Examples of Work:
Conduct checks of the adult and child abuse and neglect register for the purposes of employment, placement of children, volunteer work, etc. as required. Provide para-professional support to adult and child protective services program specialists and administrators. Answer telephones and receive and process paper and e-faxes. Send letters or correspondence to employers, agencies, and individuals verifying the status of the identified person as it relates to adult and child abuse and neglect registers. Interpret adult and child abuse and neglect intake information.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; research; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency. OR Experience in performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.
PREFERRED: Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with NFOCUS.
OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: the program-administrative work assigned to the position; sources of information pertinent to the assigned work; the principles and practices of record keeping. Ability to: formulate and recommend alternative courses of action to meet agency and operational goals and objectives; communicate in person and by telephone, computer, email, or correspondence to exchange information and ideas; summarize technical data and results of research and monitoring activities into reports; understand and apply instructions and program-administrative policies and directives; implement decisions made and take actions selected by others to achieve work objectives, performance goals, and priorities; learn the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the employing agency; learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
