Works with a seven-member committee of state senators to draft bills and amendments, analyze legislation, and perform legal research on committee subject matter which broadly includes state health policy, health professions licensing, children and family services, behavioral health, intellectual and physical disabilities, and Medicaid. Works within the established processes and Rules of the Nebraska Legislature with regard to public hearings and legislation as acted on by the committee. Hiring rate $54,298; higher rate possible, based on applicant's qualifications and experience.
Position is located in the Nebraska State Capitol.
Examples of Work:
Writes bill summaries, Committee Statements, annual committee summaries, and special reports, and monitors floor debate. Meets with the chair, committee members, other senators, legislative staff, state agency directors, advocacy groups, journalists, and the general public to discuss and explain legislation, policy implications, and fiscal impact. Works with a committee clerk to ensure smooth administration of the committee's meetings, hearings, and actions on legislation.
Qualifications / Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a recognized law school plus admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association. Two years of experience in private practice, as a legislative aide, or in the subject area of the committee is desirable.Applicants should provide a cover letter describing their interest in the position and a resume by e-mail to Claudia Lindley, .

Knowledge of case and statutory law; procedural law rules & regulations; research techniques; structure & operation of the Unicameral and its divisions; the legislative process; legislative rules; conventions of bill drafting; structure & operation of state government; legal memo & brief preparation. Skills & abilities: Communicate effectively orally and in writing at many levels; summarize complex and voluminous data and legal research into a concise format; interact well with diverse groups; organize & plan work; work independently with minimal supervision; work under pressure; maintain confidentiality.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
