The Supplier Performance Engineer leads supply base in the Supplier Excellence program toward world class Quality, Delivery and Cost. Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers to ensure we are receiving requires quality products and competitive quotes in support of company vision for growth. Participate in the company initiative to expand the supply base globally.
Participate and lead the supply base in the Supplier Excellence program.
Confers with suppliers and analyzes supplier questions to determine factors affecting performance (Quality, Delivery and Cost). Direct responsibility to coordinate supplier quality issues, secondary role related to deliver and cost
Assists in transfers of work between sources as required.
Drives and coordinates cost initiatives throughout the supply base.
Monitors quality of goods from suppliers and coordinates the reject/return/debit process with suppliers, as needed, through the company non-conforming parts area.
Perform Periodic supplier audits and coordinate supplier self-assessments as required.
Negotiates with suppliers to obtain quotations, prices and delivery times as required for any changes in process.
Evaluates supplier quotes and services to determine if they are compatible with company objectives and supplier capabilities.
Works with departments (Quality, Integration, Planning, Operations, Sales, etc.) to address critical issues related to customer needs and supplier performance.
Identify potential new suppliers.
Develop and maintain communications with all levels of staff and suppliers by communicating openly and honestly, treating all people with dignity, respect and courtesy.
Responsible (as a back-up) for acquiring, purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment and supplies for requisitioned material.
Could potentially come in contact with hazardous chemicals.
Reports to: Manager, Supply Chain Optimization
Travel: Approximately 15-25%
Education and/or
Experience:
Expected: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Previous quality engineering and/or purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment to include raw material, stamping, fabrications and assembly of detail components. Low cost country supply chain experience. Blue print reading and dimensional layout experience.
Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language. Bilingual preferred. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations and engineering prints. Must communicate clearly with suppliers in written and verbal means.
Other Skills: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to work independently. Customer and supplier relation skills.
